A few weeks ago I went mountain biking near Conway, NH and stumbled on an abandoned quarry, along with a ton of old machinery in various states of disrepair. You can read about that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (my post) or !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (an actual history of the quarry).
I went back this weekend with my father-in-law who wanted to see it. We didn’t immediately find the huge lathe, but we stumbled on another old building first:
It’s amazing that place hasn’t been burned to the ground yet.
Then we made our way back over to the incredible piece of machinery that lurks in the forest:
!!!CAPTION ERROR: MAY BE MULTI-LINE OR CONTAIN LINK!!!This thing stands about 6' tall and is 3" thick
There’s still grease in there:
I really should bring a better camera next time, but I’m more interested in taking the little time I have to go for a bike ride. As it was, I ate up 30 minutes or so exploring this area again, but it’s neat. Definitely won’t by my last time there, for sure. Supposedly there are other things I have yet to find.

Those first two buildings look like most of my Fallout 4 settlements.

That’s a pretty good “heartdick” painted on that cushion.

It definitely has a war-zone kind of feel, except that it’s in a quiet forest with no one around. I have little doubt that high school kids go there often. There are also multiple places to park for access, so if they’re smart, they wouldn’t even have to park in the same place. In fact, they could park in a nearby wal-mart parking lot and just walk a little.
Nah, who am I kidding, high school kids are nowhere near clever enough to do that.

Aside from a 20-ish-foot-long polished granite column just sitting on the side of a trail, the old steam engine is the first thing I came across on my first trip there that let me know this used to be an industrial site. Cool stuff...
